Biology Words: ADH

Simple Description

A hormone that causes water to be reabsorbed by kidneys

Further Detail

ADH (antidiuretic hormone) is secreted by the pituitary gland under the brain. If the brain detects that there is too little water in the blood then ADH is secreted by the gland and travels to the kidneys. It then causes the kidneys to reabsorb more water so that less water is excreted in urine.
