A force that exists between two bodies without them needing to be in contact with each other.

For example, the Earth is held in orbit by the force of gravity and it doesn't need to touch the sun to feel this force. Gravity is therefore a non-contact force. Other examples are magnetic repulsion and electrostatic repulsion.
