Physics Words: Tidal barrage

Simple Description

A power station that uses tidal power. Usually built across an estuary.

Further Detail

In a tidal power station, the movement of water as it moves from an area of high tide to an area of low tide is used to drive a turbine and a generator in order to generate energy. Tidal power is renewable and reliable (as high and low tides happen every 12 hours) but doesn't generate much energy (it is a "dilute" source of energy)
