Physics Words: Non-ohmic

Simple Description

Non-ohmic behaviour is when the voltage across a device is not proportional to the current through a device.

Further Detail

Ohm's Law states that, for an ohmic conductor, voltage is proportional to current. Therefore a non-ohmic conductor is one where these quantitites are not proportional. Examples of non-ohmic conductors are filament lamps and thermistors.
